ABOUT Himlung (7129m) Expedition

Mount Himlung is situated in one of the remote part at Nepal-Tibet border in the Manaslu region. This mountain is opened for climbers in 1992 only, before it was restricted. The route to climb Mount Himlung follows the trekking route of the Annapurna Circuit until Koto and from there to follow the small path towards the spectacular valley of Nar-Phu Gaon. The trekking route from Manang to Phu Gaon is newly opened and has not been visited by many tourists so far. The landscape is mainly composed of high peaks, passes, glaciers, remote villages, narrow gullies, forests, rocks, springs, Gompas and unique cultural settlements. Panoramic fabulous views on the Manaslu Range, the Annapurna Range, Gangapurna, Ratna Chuli and many other mountains are part of the trip.

Mount Himlung is does not need required specific climbing skills however it does require a high level of fitness. It is a beautiful course of alpinism from its Base Camp to the Summit. The Base Camp is established at 4850 meters. It is boarded at the upper end by one of the pastures belonging to Phu. In principle, three high camps are established before reaching the Summit. Camp I at 5450 meters, Camp II at 5800 meters and Camp III at 6350 meters.

Sherpa Shepherds propose climb with experienced staff and climbing Sherpa, excellent food and good lodges/Base camp during climbing of Mount Himlung with the appropriate medical and emergency aid, regular weather updates, means of communication and the necessary safety gear are part of the expedition.

Trip Itinerary

  1. 1 Kathmandu

    Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan airport, Sherpa Shepherds representative welcome you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. Upon arrival at hotel, a Sherpa Shepherds tour manager will brief you about trip, check-up climbing gears and fix time for visit at Ministry of Tourism for permit along other necessary information. And then you’ll free time to explore Kathmandu. Overnight at Hotel Vaishali***

  2. 2 Kathmandu

    Today is free day for preparation of Himlung Expedition. You’ll have free time to check climbing gears or explore around Kathmandu while the leader will attend the Ministry of Tourism for a formal briefing. The day will also be for finalizing official procedure and other necessary arrangements.  If you explore the fascinating city of Kathmandu, you can visit Kathmandu’s World Heritage Sites. We make a guided tour to some of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu valley: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhu, and Boudhnath. You will be also briefed on the nature of expedition, equipments and team composition. You can also make your last minute buying of personal items if anything missed. Overnight at Hotel Vaishali***.

  3. 3 Kathmandu

    Nepal is land of many festivals and holidays. And this day is reserve day in case if previous day is holiday in Ministry of Tourism for climbing permit formalities. Also today you can do last minutes shopping if you missed to buy anything for this expedition. If there is no holiday in previous day, you’ll free time to res and explore around Kathmandu valley. Overnight at Hotel Vaishali***

  4. 4 Kathmandu-Besi Sahar-Koto

    After breakfast at hotel, you’ll drive to Besi Sahar first. And drive to Koto. It will take about 8/9 hrs drive though the highway and rough trails of Annapurna circuit. Stay overnight at Lodge for this night.

  5. 5 Koto-Meta

    After breakfast at Koto camp, you’ll go into in the forbidden area of Naar Phu Valley . The trail follows Naar Khola and Greenland forest. The trail is brave with stony trail and absolute saunter to Meta, taking 6 hours of walk. Overnight in Meta at tented camp.

  6. 6 Meta-Phu Gaon

    After breakfast at Meta camp, you will start on the trek to Kyang of Phu village which will take about 5 to 6 hours. Making use of the desert area and characteristic restricted village of Chyakhu and Kyang where you will get jointly modest people. With mesmerizing stable add to and downward to Phu village and showing some mountains of Annapurna ranges will take to a close up.  From Kyang you’ll continue walk to reach Phu Village. Phu Village is located at an elevation of 4,080 meter which will take about 3-4 hours. In the starting phase of trek the trekking trail seems thin then quickly it starts to broaden. Overnight in Phu Gaon at tented camp.

  7. 7 Rest at Phu Gaon

    Today is full free day to explore around Pho Village and acclimatization. This is an ideal place for rest and acclimatization and local exploration. As you are already in altitude and need our body to altitude adaptation before heading to higher altitude and at the same time, there are many things to be seen and explored in the village, the ancient monasteries etc. You also have beautiful views of Ratna Chuli, Himlung Himal, Pokharavan and Kanguru etc. You also can access higher on the hill above Phugaon to acclimatize and come down to camp. Overnight in Camp.  Overnight at tented camp.

  8. 8 Phu Gaon- Himlung Base Camp (alt. 4540m)

    After breakfast at Phu Gaon, you’ll head to Himlung Base camp located at 4540 meter. Your today’s walk begins through the glacier with good beautiful sights of landscape, yak pastures and mountain sceneries. On the way you’ll have two ways; one for Himalung Base camp and another for Ratna Chuli base camp. And you’ll take the upper trail  of Himlung base camp and soon you arrive to our camping spot into a grassy land with some mountain chain. And we shall set up base Camp here. Overnight at tented camp.

  9. 9/23 Himlung Climbing Period

    Day 10/11: Rest and Preparation

    At base camp you’ll rest for better acclimatization and in the mean time you’ll be have preparation for the ascension, checking equipments, simple training on using different equipments etc. Overnight at tented camp.

    Day 12/13: Ascend to camp 1 and return to base camp

    From base camp after some rest, preparation and acclimatization, now you’ll ascend to camp 1. First of all you’ll walk on the glacier for one and half hour and then on steep on the snow from where we put on the mountaineering shoes and fix on crampons. Possibly other equipments like harness if necessary. After spending one night at camp 1, again you’ll return to base camp. Overnight at tented camp.

    Day 14: Ascend to camp 1

    After first attempt and overnight stay at camp 1, now you’re ready for next further camp. Also we’ll take this day as reserve extra day in Camp I for better adaptation to altitude. Overnight at tented camp 1.

    Day 15: Ascend to camp 2

    After one night at camp 1 for second time, now you’ll move forward to Camp 2. Our High altitude sherpas will have already fixed the ropes wherever necessary and set up camps, deposit food, fuel and other logistical things where as the members also will help them to carry some equipments if possible. As mentioned earlier that the route of ascent changes year by year but the strategy does not change so we set up camp II at an elevation of and the views around are magnificent with the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. You’ll have the sights as far as the Fishtail along with Annapurna I, II, III, IV, V, Dhaulagiri and other mountains. Overnight at tented camp 2.

    Day 16: Ascend to Camp 3 and return to camp 2

    From camp 2, now you’ll move to the last camp. You’ll ascend to camp 3 crossing over a snowy hills and then return back camp 2.  Overnight at tented camp 2.

    Day 17: Move to Camp 3

    After first attempt to camp 3 yesterday, today you’ll move to camp 3 and it is the last camp from where you’ll attempt the summit of Himlung Himal. Overnight at tented camp 3.

    Day 18: Summit of Himlung Himal and back base camp

    From last camp (camp 3), earlier morning you’ll summit the Mount Himlung. This is the day of your dream come true day, so we and our high altitude guides make every efforts to get maximum climbers to the summit. You’ll need to wake up at about early as 3 o’clock in the morning; after having some breakfast; preparing some snacks and fluids in thermos flasks you’ll head to the summit.

     

    There are several routes for the ascent however you’ll choose the North East route which is considered to be safer.  The route is quite steep and involves some struggles, but on more difficult section, there will be fixed ropes so we simply jumar up and ascend. From the summit, you’ll have the view of many mountain ranges. There is a small space on the summit, so we do not rest on top for long time taking photos, enjoying the marvelous views of the Tibetan plateau and the mountain chains of Nepal; we descend down to Base Camp. Overnight in Camp.

    Day 19/23: Extra reserve day for Summit

    These 2 days are reserve in case if your schedule to camp 3 & onwards postponed due to bad weather or any reason, you could use this reserve day. If you summit on time, then you’ll rest at base camp or lower place. Overnight in Camp.

  10. 24 Himlung BC- Kyang

    After summit Mount Himlung, you’ll trek down to Kyang. Overnight in Camp.

  11. 25 Kyang-Naar Phu Khola

    After breakfast at Kyang, you’ll trek to Naar Phu Khola. Overnight in Camp.

  12. 26 Naar Phu Khola- Jagat

    After breakfast at Naar Phu Khola camp, you’ll trek to Jagat, the last day trek of this trip. Overnight in Camp.

  13. 27 Jagat-Besi Sahar-Kathmandu

    After breakfast in Jagat, you’ll transfer to Besi Sahar first and then you’ drive to Kathmanadu. After reaching in Kathmandu, check-in at hotel. And free time for rest. Evening farewell dinner with our team at authentic Nepalese restaurant with cultural dance. Overnight at Hotel Vaishali.

  14. 28 Kathmanmdu

    Today is your last day in Nepal so prepare for departure, packing and returning gear. A massage is highly recommended to relax your tired muscles before your long haul flight home. In the evening you’ll have farewell dinner at local Nepalese restaurant with typical cultured dances. Overnight at Hotel Viashali.

  15. 29 Departure from Kathmandu

    Before 3 hrs of your flight time, you’ll be transferred to the airport and then you’ll fly back to home.
